A Real-Life Look at Our Handmade Rugs

Our entire collection of beautiful handmade rugs can be explored on our website, where every piece is carefully photographed from several angles so you can appreciate its colour, pattern and texture as accurately as possible. This gives our customers the confidence to browse and buy online from home, from anywhere in the world. But if you're able to visit, there's nothing quite like the real experience of touching, seeing and appreciating them in person. 

One of the nicest parts of what we do is meeting our customers and welcoming them to our beautiful Sussex showroom.

In the showroom you can take your time, browse through the rug stacks, see colours in natural light and feel the weight and texture of the wool under your hands. You can compare pieces side by side, watch how the colours shift as a rug is turned, and get a proper sense of how a rug might live in your home.

And most importantly, you can browse entirely at your own pace.

Some visitors prefer to explore quietly for inspiration, others are keen for us to get into the stacks with them, pulling rugs out and laying them down so they can see several options together. However you like to browse, we’re happy to welcome you and let you explore the showroom in your own way.

Our Golden Square showroom makes that easy. The space is large and open, with plenty of room to go through the rug stacks, lay rugs out, make ‘shortlist’ piles for you, or simply give you space to browse independently, with us on hand if you need help.

If you have questions about the rugs, their origins or weaving techniques, we’re always happy to talk about them. And if you’re ‘rug ready’, we’re here to help you find the right thing. We pride ourselves on offering a welcoming, no-pressure way of helping people choose the right rug.

Exploring the Showroom

As you move through the showroom, the rugs are arranged by size, which makes browsing surprisingly straightforward. You’ll find stacks ranging from the smallest pieces — perfect beside a bed, in a hallway or in front of a fireplace — through to larger room rugs designed to anchor generous living spaces.

When people first see our neatly piled stacks, they sometimes feel a little unsure about pulling them apart — but please rest assured, they are there to be explored. Don’t worry about making a mess; that’s exactly what they’re for.

If you’d like to lift rugs and browse through them yourself, do get stuck in. But we’re always happy to take on the heavy lifting for you (it’s basically our gym!). For all but the smallest pieces, we work in pairs to lift and show the rugs — taking an end each so we can move through the stacks with ease, stopping to show any that catch your eye.

If you’re not quite sure where to start, we have iPads available in the showroom where you can browse our entire rug collection digitally; you can filter rugs by size, colour, type or style, and once you’ve found something that catches your eye we can quickly locate it in the showroom so you can see it in real life. Being able to move between browsing digitally and seeing the rugs physically in the showroom makes it easy to narrow down options.

Some visitors arrive knowing exactly what they’re looking for. Others prefer to explore and see what stands out once the rugs are laid out.

Alex has been sourcing handmade rugs since 2008, working with weaving communities and specialist workshops across Afghanistan, India and Turkey to bring some of the finest handmade rugs to our showroom. With such a varied collection of handmade rugs, there is always something new to discover.

Planning Your Visit

If you’re planning to visit us, it’s helpful to measure your space beforehand. Because all of our rugs are unique, having a rough idea of the size your room can accommodate makes the search much easier.

If you’re decorating and have fabric swatches, paint samples or flooring samples, do bring them along. Seeing colours together in natural light can often help narrow things down.

You may be starting a room completely from scratch — in which case you might enjoy reading our blog on designing a room from the floor up. If you’re not quite ready to buy but are coming to get some inspiration, just bring yourselves. However you approach your visit, you will be welcomed in a relaxed, no-pressure way.

And if it looks like you might be settling in for a longer session to find just the right piece, we’ll be happy to get the coffee on!

Visiting Rugs of Petworth

You’ll find our showroom in Golden Square, Petworth, nestled among some of the town’s well-known independent boutiques and antique shops.

Petworth itself is a lovely place to spend some time, with Petworth House and its famous deer park just a short walk away.

Many visitors enjoy making a day of it — exploring the town, browsing the shops, stopping for lunch, and spending some time discovering our beautiful rugs.
