We're passionate about sustaining the age-old craft of handmade rug weaving. By consistently maintaining the highest possible standards in the industry, we believe that everybody involved benefits - from the weavers at the loom to the beautifully furnished room.
Alex, our rug buyer, travels frequently to rug weaving countries including Turkey, Pakistan and India to meet the skilled artisans who create these timeless pieces. On these trips, Alex picks out the very best rugs to bring back to our Petworth showroom.
SOURCED WITH CARE
We care about this trade, and everyone in it. It begins with a grazing sheep, then wool sorters, spinners, washers and dyers. If a rug is to be woven to a specified design, there is a rug designer. Then come the weavers who physically knot the pile of the carpet onto its foundation threads. And it doesn't stop there; the carpet, in a raw state, is then washed, dried, stretched, and subjected to numerous manual finishing steps, all undertaken by hand.
It's not hard to see why carpet production is vital for the livelihoods of a vast number of people, and a crucial export for the economies of the weaving countries.
