Why We Love Petworth

A Special Place to Be Part Of

Petworth, in the heart of West Sussex, is a very special place, and we feel very lucky to be part of it. Rugs of Petworth has been part of the town since 2008, and in that time we’ve come to appreciate just how special it is.

What Brings People to Petworth

Petworth is probably best known for two things — Petworth House with its 700-acre deer park, and the town’s long-standing reputation as an antiques destination. Many people arrive for one or the other, but once they’re here they quickly realise there’s much more to the town than that.

A Town Made for Browsing

What we love most about Petworth is the mix of independent shops, interiors and galleries you find here. Antique dealers, interiors stores, galleries, cafés and boutiques — independent businesses coming together to create a wonderfully eclectic collection of browsable delights. It’s the sort of place where you can spend an afternoon happily browsing and exploring, discovering beautiful things for the home along the way.

A Sense of History — With a Bright Future

There’s a real warmth to Petworth — a small-town, big-welcome feel, where people take the time to browse, explore and enjoy what’s around them. Take a walk through the town and you’ll feel its history in the beautiful old buildings and along its much-loved cobbled Lombard Street. It gives Petworth a real sense of history and place, without feeling stuck in the past, as there’s a vibrancy to it too, and a real sense that it’s still evolving.

A Town That Punches Above Its Weight

For a small town, Petworth really does punch above its weight — with so much going on throughout the year. From music, arts and literary events to a community cinema at Leconfield Hall, there’s always something happening. In the summer months you’ll find cricket matches being played in the park, with Petworth House and the South Downs as the backdrop — the sort of scene that quietly sums up what makes Petworth so special.

Easy to Reach — and Worth the Journey

Petworth feels wonderfully tucked away, yet it’s easy to reach. There’s a milestone set into the red brick garden wall of a house on New Street, inscribed “49 miles to London”. Close enough — yet it still feels like a real change of pace when you arrive.

Finding Us in the Heart of the Town

Walk through the Old Bakery shopping arcade and it opens out quietly into Golden Square, where you’ll find our Petworth showroom. Our Rugs of Petworth showroom sits in the old granary building in the heart of the town, surrounded by independent shops and cafés.

Inside the Showroom

From the outside it blends quietly into its historic surroundings, but step through the door and you’ll find something quite unexpected. Inside it’s light, airy and contemporary, with space to lay out rugs properly and a calm atmosphere that invites you to take your time.

A Place Full of Discovery

Many people tell us they didn’t expect to discover a space like this tucked away in Petworth — which somehow feels very fitting, because the town itself is full of those same sorts of discoveries.

Why We Love Being Here

Petworth has a very special atmosphere. People come here to browse, explore and discover beautiful things — and that’s exactly why we love being part of it.
